It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Dorothy Mary Bethune (nee Hanley) at North Bay Regional Health Centre on Monday August 28, 2017 in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of the late Fergus (Fergie) Bethune. Dorothy is survived by her two adoring children, Michael (Julie) Bethune and Therese Bethune, her three granddaughters, Amy Plested (Len Baker), Karlynn (Calvin) Houle and Katie (Cody) Crane; and her cherished great grandchildren Abbigail, Claira, Kye, Carly and Clayton. She was predeceased by her parents, James Hanley and Myrtle (nee Whitehorn), her siblings Tom Hanley, Frank (Lorraine) Hanley and Monica Edwards. She will be remembered fondly by five siblings: Robert (Arlene) Hanley, Catherine (Basil) Bethune, Gerald (Lynn) Hanley, Mary Hanley and Judith (Dan) Alexander; and her sister in- law Vivian Tremblay (Emile) and brother in-law Rod Edwards. She will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews, and the Hanley and Bethune families. Dorothy influenced many students with her thirty-five years as a teacher with the Separate School Board. She spent much of her retirement traveling to Florida, Europe and Alaska. She enjoyed spending time with family, the church community, dinners with “The Gang”, playing bridge and knitting. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and faith. Most importantly she enjoyed many years of laughter and love with Fergie. Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Dorothy’s life by sharing warm memories at the visitation at the McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Friday September 1, 2017 at 3-5pm and 7-9pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption on Saturday September 2, 2017 at 10am. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery to follow.
