Edward Walter Reed

January 16, 1917 ~ October 16, 2016 (age 99) 99 Years Old

In loving memory of Edward Walter Reed who passed away peacefully at the  North Bay Regional Health Centre on October 16, 2016 at the age of 99. Beloved husband of 66 years to Muriel Reed (Ricketts) predeceased 2008. Son of Walter and Elizabeth (Owen) Reed, he was also predeceased by his brothers Herbert Reed (Laura) and Edgar Reed (Patricia). Loving father of Gary (predeceased) (Helen) Smooth Rock Falls and daughter Dianne McDonald (William) of Sudbury. Beloved grandfather of Bradley Reed (predeceased), Sandra Reed and Rhonda Suszter (George) of North Bay, Erica-Lynn Gertz (Robbie) of Sudbury and Jeff McDonald (Lindsay) of Hamilton. Great-grandfather of Michael and Mathew Suszter and Blake and Bennet Gertz. Fondly remembered by niece Holly Sue Kennedy (Tom) North Bay, niece Kathleen Reed of Sudbury and nephew Bill Reed (Isobel) of London. Born in North Bay , in his younger years Edward was in the tank division of the American Army during W.W.II. He worked in Toronto at Otis Elevators, owned a restaurant in Iroquois Falls, worked at the family owned Canadian Tire Store in Timmins and moved to Smooth Rock Falls as machine shop foreman for the Abitibi Pulp and Paper mill. Upon returning to North Bay in 1969 he was the plant manager at Federal Drilling now Redpath until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, an avid hunter, fisherman and prospector and spent many happy years at his cottage on Lake Talon where he shared many campfires with family and friends. At Edward’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Cremation arrangements entrusted to the McGuinty Funeral Home. An Interment service for the family will be held at a later date.
