Joan Marie Hinchberger

Hinchberger, Joan (née Schmelefske) was born in Winnipeg, MB, on September 2, 1933, and died peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s at Nipissing Manor on April 3, 2017. Joan was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Hinchberger and her parents Martin and Agnes (née Hayes). She is survived by her two children, Lara and Marty, for whom she was a dearly loved, well liked, and deeply admired mother and friend, as well by her brothers James (Mary, predeceased), Denis (Nancy), and Michael Schmelefske. She will be remembered by her many friends, as well as colleagues and students from a long career in education, the latter phase of which was spent as Principal of Ferris Glen and King George Public Schools. Her family wishes to thank the staff of Nipissing Manor and Joan’s devoted carer, Belva Ross, for their many years of gentle and loving attention. Family will be receiving visitors at the McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Thursday, April 6, 2017, from 3-5 & 7-9 pm. A vigil prayer service will be at 8 pm. Cremation to follow at Whispering Pines Funeral Home. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be gratefully appreciated by her family.
