Joe Gal

Joe passed away at his residence in North Bay surrounded by the love of his family on Friday September 27, 2019 at the age of 67 years. Left to treasure his memory is best friend and soulmate Anne (nee Fournier). Beloved supportive father to Adam (Stephanie), and Alicia all of Ottawa. Proud and devoted Dziadzi to Quinn and Madeline, who brought out the fun-loving child in him again. Joe was predeceased by his parents Stanisław and Maria (nee Bielak) and is survived by his brothers Walter (Barbara), Frank (Barbara), Stan (Dori), and Ed (Helen). Joe is a treasured uncle to his many nieces and nephews and will be fondly remembered by the Fournier Nut House, especially his best buddy and father-in-law Ralph. Joe had a passion for teaching and coaching with a career stretching thirty plus years beginning at Henry Carr (Toronto), decades at St. Joseph Scollard Hall, ending with a stint in the Faculty of Education at Nipissing University. Mr. Gal’s students and the city of North Bay witnessed his passion spread wider than the classroom, as he was very active in extracurricular activities, and a staunch advocate for the development of female sports within the community. The family wishes to thank their friends and neighbours, and especially travel companions Piglet and Eeyore for the endless support over the years. A special thank you from Adam, Alicia, and Stephanie to the family’s Anam Cara, Dianne Armatage, for guiding our parents through the miracle of the past 5 years. We are forever in your debt Dianne. The family will receive visitors for a celebration of life at the Davedi Club (313 Airport Road North Bay) on Sunday October 6, 2019, starting with a service at 12 noon followed by a time of visitation until 3 pm. Due to extreme allergies, the family request no flowers.
