Virginia (Spina) Tedesco

August 21, 1917 ~ February 16, 2015 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Tedesco, Virginia (nee Spina)

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Virginia Tedesco in her 98th year of life. Virginia passed away peacefully with family by her side on February 16th. Born on August 21, 1917 in Pietrafitta, Cosenza, Italy to Eugene Spina and Maria Ammerata. In 1953 she came to Canada from Italy with her three children to start a new life and meet with her husband, Giuseppe Tedesco. She did not know the language of the new country but with faith, determination and strength she persevered and was a stay at home mother to her children. Her passion for travelling took her all over the world to see numerous relatives in Europe and Argentina with her loving husband by her side. She was an active member of St. Rita's Parish for many years until it closed. She took pride in being able to carry baby Jesus up the aisle every Christmas Eve mass. She loved her gardening as well as crocheting and everyone enjoyed the fruit of her labour. She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene Spina and Maria Ammerata; her husband Giuseppe Tedesco; son Geno Tedesco; son- in-law Lou Gosselin; and her sister, Giovannina Spina. She is survived by her daughters Maria Gosselin of North Bay, Ersilia Sherman (Bill) of Thunder Bay, her daughter-inlaw Sue Tedesco and grandchildren, Joanne and Janet Gosselin, Nancy Caswell, Louise Galasso (Ed), Mary-Lou Pincevero, Stephen Tedesco (Sarah), Jamie Tedesco, Garrick and Carla Sherman; as well as fourteen great-grandchildren. Family will be receiving friends at the McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at The Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption on Friday at 10 am. Entombment at All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre- Cardiac Unit or a charity of choice would be gratefully appreciated by her family. Hearfelt thanks to Dr. Prins for his many years of caring for mom, the staff at Cassellholme for their care and compassion as well as the staff of 3D at the North Bay Regional Hospital.
