Donna Mauro

With heavy hearts, the family wishes to announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Donna on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. She was in her 76th year.

Donna was predeceased by her parents Norman and Eva (nee Dominico) Mauro and is survived by her loving and supportive brother David Mauro (Virginia) of Mississauga. She was devoted to her large extended Italian family, and she will always be held in the hearts of her dear friends, her surviving aunts and many cousins.  Donna’s faith sustained her; she was a loved parishioner at St. Rita’s Church and the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption.

Born in Calgary, Alberta on May 27, 1947, Donna’s family eventually moved back to North Bay where she attended school and graduated from St Mary’s Academy.  Her secretarial education helped her build a successful career working within organizations such as the North Bay Nugget, Globe and Mail, Harbour Castle Hilton, the Wellesley Orthopedic Hospital and the Niagara Casino.  She returned to North Bay to assist with the care of her parents while working for Voyageur Airways.  After her retirement, she continued her work through volunteerism with the NBRHC, the Canadian Anti- Fraud Centre, Emerald Woods Condo Board and the Davedi Club. Giving gifts of knitted items, hosting family gatherings with her favorite Italian recipes, singing along to her favorite big band playlist (especially her Dad’s) and travelling were on top of her “fun list”.

The family extends heartfelt thanks and immense gratitude to the staff at the Empire Living Center, Dr. Inez Jinnah for her post stroke care and the ER/CCU team at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.  

Visitors will be received at the McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Sunday January 15, 2023, between the hours of 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption on Monday January 16, 2023, at 10 am. Interment will occur at Holy Cross Cemetery the following day. In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully acknowledged by the family to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, NBRHC Or the Charity of your choice.
