It is with heavy hearts that the family of John William Nidd (Jack) announces his passing on July 8, 2023, at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. Jack passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, following a valiant fight with vascular dementia. His passing occurred just days after his 92nd birthday. Jack was born on June 29, 1931, in Cochrane, Ontario. He was born a twin with his sister, Dene, and they became lifelong sidekicks. Jack is survived by his wife, Myrtle (nee Rangeloff); his children Cheryl of North Bay and David (Julie) of Ottawa; and his grandchildren Gillian and Karlee of Ottawa; along with his sisters Mary Anne Ross (Robin) of Burnaby, British Columbia, and Judi Bates of Langley, British Columbia. He was predeceased by his twin sister Frances Shelmerdene Demko of Cleveland, Ohio and sister Jane Martin of North Bay. A proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branches 23 and 599, Jack devoted countless hours to supporting the work of the Legion, earning a life membership for all of his hard work. Final arrangements for Jack have been entrusted to the McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay). A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, July 17, 2023, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following at 1 p.m. in the McGuinty Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or the North Bay Regional Health Centre would be greatly appreciated by the family.
