Michelina Candeloro (nee Severino) passed away surrounded by her family on April 12, 2022, at the age of 92 years. Michelina was born in Celenza Valfortore, Foggia and was one of five siblings born from her father Michele Severino and her mother Angela Varanelli on March 7, 1930. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers and sister: Vincenzo, Giambattista, Antonio and Giovanna. Michelina is survived by her sister Carmela as well as by her husband Nicola and two sons Leonardo (Yvonne) and Michelangelo (Shari).
Michelina, met and married Nicola Candeloro in their home town of Celenza. Like many Italians of their generation, the young couple immigrated to the Americas in search of a better life for themselves and their future family. They came to North Bay, settled and never left. They were due to celebrate 65 years of marriage this September.
Michelina embraced Canada to the fullest, but returned to her native homeland of Italy often, to visit with family and friends and a small piece of her heart that never left Celenza.
There were no greater devotions in Michelina’s life than family and God. Her passions included a love of gardening and in particular her flower garden. No sacrifice was too much in the service of family and God for Michelina. In her later years her two granddaughters, Sophie and Mia Leena brought the greatest joy to her life and never failed to bring out her warm loving smile as she simply watched them play as children.
She believed, as many from her generation that life in general is hard, but definitely worth fighting for, as she displayed all too well in her final years with us….You will always be in our hearts!
