Died peacefully on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023 at the age of 79. Vivian is survived by her loving husband Jeff Young. She was the beloved mother of Geordie Young (Karen Greve Young) and Andrew Young (Blanca Fromm Young). Vivian was the cherished big sister of Brian Grawbarger (Marcia) and David Grawbarger (Cherita). Nana will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Jeffrey, Orson, Kathryn, and Rachel in whom she took immense pride.
Vivian was born to Bert and Winifred Grawbarger on March 31, 1944 in Bishop’s Stortford, England. She was raised in Restoule, Ontario. Vivian embodied her family’s values and dedication to hard work, academic excellence, and service. Upon completion of Grade 13 she attended Teacher’s College and began working full time to finance her undergraduate studies as a summer student. She earned a B.A. from Queen’s University and later an M.A. from the University of Victoria. In over 30 years of teaching, Vivian taught every grade level from elementary to college. A skilled educator, her knowledge, dedication, and high standards improved the lives of countless students.
Vivian is remembered by her family for her strength, intelligence, and loving affection. She was adventurous and curious about the world. She read voraciously and traveled extensively. She committed herself to her family and to a lifetime of community service. From Merritt, to Fort Nelson, to Duncan, British Columbia, she gave of herself to improve the lives of others through the Rotary Club, the ACW, and the Hospital Auxiliary. Vivian loved the outdoors and remained an avid hiker into her late seventies.
Vivian will be laid to rest in the cemetery in Restoule on July 8th, 2023. Her family warmly welcome all who wish to honour and remember Vivian to join them for a celebration of her life at the Restoule Legion from 12:00 to 3:00.
