Celentano, Catherine (Katie):

Passed away in her 93rd year at Southlake Village Residence in Newmarket on January 15, 2017 after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s.  Born Caterina Codespoti in Samo, Italy on September 11, 1924, immigrated to the United States in 1929 and grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania.  She married her husband Joseph in 1946 and moved to North Bay, Ontario.  Other than a short time living in White River, Ontario, she lived close to 60 years in North Bay.  She was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League at St. Rita’s Church and a long-time volunteer for the Civic Hospital’s Ladies Auxiliary.  She moved to the Newmarket area in 2007 to be closer to her children when she became ill.  She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph and survived by her sister, Aggie Ruscitto of Erie, PA. She will be deeply missed by her children, John (Elene), Natalie (Randy), Tina (Rachid), Eric, Rosemary (Jon), and Kerri (Ted).  She was also the dearly loved grandmother of Alexis, Kaitlin, Julian, Bianca, Samuel, Zachary, Joey and Carmen.

Visitation will be held on at McGuinty Funeral Home on Friday January 20th from 6:00pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral mass will take place on Saturday January 21st 2017 at 11:00am at St. Peter the Apostle Church, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of York Region are appreciated by the family.
