Evie was a great lady and I respected, admired and liked her very much. I’m sure there will be other folks talking about her hard work and commitment to her community that she constantly displayed throughout her lifetime and which is all very admirable, but my fondest memories of Evie are more related to her sense of adventure and mischief. I think it was in her 85th year that she went camel riding in the Middle Eastern desert and nothing was going to stop her. This past spring, I had the absolute pleasure of taking Evie and Heather in a very very small plane for a flight over their family camp at the French River for her birthday. Her 87th birthday!!
I hope I can be that adventurous on my 67th.

One time Evie and I we’re at the church for some reason, a meeting or something, and with a twinkle in her eye, Evie told me that she was known as the original call girl of Callander. She sorta smiled in a devilish way as I reacted and then waited a moment or two before she told me this was because she was the original Bell operator for Callander. I think she really enjoyed my reaction. More recently, Evie and I happened to be getting our failing body parts worked on at the same time at the physio clinic at the hospital. Next thing I know she’s instructing the physiotherapist to ignore anything I said because ‘I couldn’t be trusted’. Again she seemed to really enjoy my reaction.

Evie was one of the good ones and I will really miss her, but I know that she’s in a better place now. I’m happy that my good friend is no longer in pain and that somewhere up there her adventure continues.

Thanks so much for posting these stories, Glen. I was revisiting the guestbook with thoughts of my Granny today and this post really made me smile.

Her playful spirit and sense of humour live on through memories like this. It's comforting that she continues to make us smile and giggle out loud when these moments cross our minds. Thank you for sharing these moments with us.

Dear Linda, Mike and Heather and your families,
We know the sorrow of losing our parents. We feel deeply for you at this time. We pray that the God of all comfort will comfort you at this time giving you grace , peace and quiet comfort.
My best memory of your Mom is in Brownies as my Tawny Owl. She was always so kind and gentle and I loved the merriment in her eyes. She's was one of those women who could make everything fun! I would LOVE to be there for the celebration of her life to hear all the many ways she impacted others lives. Be blessed by all the beautiful stories you hear Linda, Heather and Michael. {{{Hugs}}}
