Kevin, so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Had many great conversations with your dad when I worked at Canadore but mostly remember the many laughs we had during our car pooling trips with the choir! Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers during this trying time!

Geri and I would like to express our sincere condolences to the Hotten Family on this sad occasion.
Bill was the first representative of Nipissing University to greet me when I arrived in North Bay in August, 1967, as a young 23-year old. He had a small, temporary office at the corner of Fraser and McIntyre Street, because the old Cassellholme Building was still being renovated.
When I walked into Bill's office and told him that I was Stan Lawlor, he said "Yes. I think your father is going to be working with us at Nipissing." I told him that I was my father and that I was the person who would be teaching Sociology at Nipissing. Bill and I had many chuckles about our first meeting. Even when I visited with him in hospital during one of my trips to North Bay last year, Bill recalled our first meeting.
Bill was the key component of the financial health of Nipissing University during the first 20 years of its operation. Dr. Zytaruk entrusted him with that responsibility and he handled it well.
Bill applied the financial principles that he had applied in his personal affairs in the performance of his role as Nipissing's Accountant and Financial Controller. He was legendary in the performance of his fiduciary responsibilities and ensured that every dollar was well spent and accounted for.
Over the years, Bill became a close personal friend. During his last years, I would often pick him up and visit with Dr. George Zytaruk as his home. Jo-Anne would make a special occasion of it when we would visit, especially on Dr. Zytaruk's birthday. We enjoyed watching Bill and Dr. Zytaruk chat over a drink and reminisce about old times at Nipissing.
Bill always had a desire to see things improved, as a result of his involvement. His role as a member of the Campus Advisory Committee, along with his friend Gord Lamorie, played a great part in the early success of the Nipissing/Canadore relationship on the new campus. During his time on the Cassellholme Board, Bill worked with his friends Merv St. Amand and Don King, to construct Castle Arms. He always seemed to know how to leverage resources to achieve results.
North Bay has benefited greatly as a result of his many contributions over the years.

So sorry to hear about Bill's passing. He's now at Peace and pain-free, and with Marie. Extending our sympathies to all of the Hotten families. Thinking of all of you. Kevin, remember your Sunday Coffee visits, not the difficult recent past of you & Heather supporting him through his illness. Jake, over this difficult week, try not to focus on your loss, but celebrate your Poppa's life----that's what he would want. (And on Wednesday, your Aunt's there----holding your hand).

Kevin, Heather and Jacob, The path God chooses for us is often one of hardship and struggle. Your dad travelled such a road and left, for all of us, a better understanding of what a courageous man he must have been. His mind and body are finally at rest. My prayer is that all of you will be left with memories of him when he was well and vibrant because I am sure that is how he would want to be remembered. My sympathy and prayers are reaching out to you.

On behalf of Nipissing University Athletics and the staff and students and staff of The Robert J.Surtees Athletic Centre I would like to express our deepest condolences to the Hotten family on Bills passing. He was a very firm believer in everything Nipissing from our humble beginnings to the day we became a full fledged University. He came to work everyday with a smile and made you feel like you were an important part of the solution to any problem we faced, and he left everyday with a smile knowing he had done the best job he could have,a true professional. On a personal note I will miss my friend ,we shared many stories over the years and even after his retirement from the Home of the Lakers-he would always ask how things were.We are all better people for having the chance to know Bill ,thank you for sharing him with us!I hope words of comfort from friends and family will help you over the next few days, weeks and months ahead.Farewell Bill-see you again!!

When Pat and I would visit North Bay and I would come by at Bill's to pick up Pat on the way back to Toronto, Bill would walk Pat down to the car and the look on his face spoke of love and sadness as he watch Pat leave. His face said: drive carefully and take good care of her, she's my daughter!
My condolences to the family, and especially to Pat.
Love, Joanne and Tony

Hotten Family -- our deepest sympathy and the passing of your father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Bill was a long time member of the local Chapter of the OPPVA and even though his illness prevented him from attending many functions, he was thought of often. Thank you for allowing us to know him.

R.I.P. Bill. My dealings with Mr. Hotten when I was a member of the Nipissing student union were always professional on his end and we had some good conversations outside of our "business" dealings despite our often having differences of opinion. My condolences to his family.
